AUTHOR

 INTRODUCTION

This article describes the manufacture of polyamide 6-6 in the context of its application in engineering thermoplastics, with only a brief discussion of its textile application.

Only the process for polycondensing hexamethylenediamine adipate (also known as Nylon 6-6 salt) in aqueous solution, either batch or continuous, will be covered.

We won't be looking at processes for making polyamide 6-6 by the "dry salt" route or by the direct diacid/diamine process (direct polyamidification).

The manufacture of engineering plastics from polyamide 6-6 and their applications will also be covered.
