4. Cathodes

Various materials have been considered for use as cathode materials. These include :

  • chromates ;

  • oxides ;

  • sulfides.

Currently, FeS 2 pyrite is the most widely used material, as it combines the main characteristics required. On the other hand, pyrite can be extracted from ores at a reasonable cost, unlike CoS 2 , which has to be synthesized.
