1. A few definitions

A distinction is made between alopecia and baldness. The etymological origin of the word alopecia is Greek. It refers to the fox (αλωπεκη, fox skin), an animal that sheds its hair in springtime. Alopecia is therefore partial or total hair loss. Baldness, on the other hand, is the ultimate stage of androgenetic alopecia, a particular form of alopecia that will be detailed later.

If hair is still so important in today's society, it's because it's associated, in our collective unconscious, with notions of strength and seduction.
