3. Heat treatment

Unhardened amorphous alloys are rarely used to convey magnetic inductions. It is necessary to subject them to heat treatments, some of whose characteristics are listed in table 2 (source: Allied Signal). These anneals have two objectives, which can be achieved simultaneously for certain types of treatment.

  • Internal mechanical stresses within the ribbons must be eliminated. These arise from the manufacturing process (rapid quenching) and the shaping process (winding, for example). The necessary treatments are carried out without a magnetic field and are indicated by the letter R in the table 2 .
