afterglow

Delayed luminescence phenomena in respect of the excitation . It is often due to trapping and detrapping sequences of charge carriers on defects.

pile-up

It occurs when the scintillation time response is longer than the duration between two events. The signals overlap and thus the last one shows an amplitude which is higher than expected.
