1. Key features of SOA

This section is divided into three paragraphs. The first describes the basic structure of an SOA representative of current components, and the equations used to model its static and dynamic properties. The second presents the SOA's functional characteristics in static mode: gain, gain saturation, sensitivity to the polarization state of the optical signal, optical bandwidth, noise figure (by static mode, we mean that the SOA's polarization current and the light intensity of the incident signal are constant). The third paragraph is devoted to the operation of the SOA in the dynamic regime, i.e. when the light intensity of the signal varies over time and the gain is saturated, whether the signal is single-channel or multi-channel. In particular, we look at the effects on the signal of non-linearities in the amplifier medium, as a function of modulation frequency and light intensity....
