2. Physico-chemical aspects

Certain types of premises require chemical air treatment:

  • by ionization to make the air healthier;

  • by irradiation to destroy micro-organisms;

  • by chemical drying to lower the moisture content.

Ionization and ultraviolet treatment are increasingly being replaced in cleanrooms by high air renewal and very fine filtration (absolute filters).

2.1 Ionization

An ionizing device discharges static electricity through extremely dry air, emitting billions of negative ions per second (O 2- ). These ions repel each other.
