Drilling rig workshop

Hammering

Action consisting in alternating movements to lift a heavy tool (sheep or drill bit) and let it fall back to drive a tool into the ground. The drop height and frequency of movements depend on the hardness of the ground.

Cake (cake)

Layer of drilling mud formed on borehole walls by absorption of water by the ground

Carottier (sampler)

Cylindrical sampling tool with circular cross-section designed to obtain a sample or core, and used in a purpose-built borehole, either by punching (sinking, hammering or vibropercussion) or by rotation.
