2. Characterization of creep resistance

To analyze the development of creep, "creep tests" are carried out, during each of which the specimen, kept at a constant temperature, is subjected to a fixed load. The deformations it undergoes over time are measured. The results obtained are presented in the form of metal creep curves (valid under the conditions adopted).

2.1 Creep tests

Creep tests are generally performed under uniaxial tensile stress. The specimen, which is usually cylindrical, is subjected to a constant load during the test (given the specimen's deformations, the stress to which it is subjected is not constant); mechanical stress is conventionally taken into account through the initial unit load (applied load / initial specimen cross-section).
