1. Cast iron constituents

1.1 Obtaining liquid pig iron

Several technologies are used in the industry to obtain liquid cast iron. These technologies depend on the materials available at the melting site, the quantity of cast iron to be supplied and the quality of the liquid material required. There are four main categories of liquid cast iron production.

  • Primary melts :

    This is the basic cast iron obtained directly from ore processing. The sequence of operations is as follows:

    • ore extraction,

    • crushing, grinding,

    • enrichment to eliminate as much gangue as possible,

    • agglomeration into blocks,...
