1. Determining elastic properties

1.1 General information. Definitions

The number of elasticity constants is reduced by material symmetries. There are only two constants for isotropic materials. A distinction is then made between :

  • the Young's modulusE such that in a uniaxial test :

    σ = E ε

  • the Poisson's ratioν such that in a uniaxial test :

    ν = – ε 2 1

    ratio of radial strain ε 2 ...
