Phase analysis

Identification of phases and, more generally, of all microscopic constituents present in the metal alloy under study, which is decisive for the latter's physical and chemical properties.

Metallography; metallography

Study of the nature of the structure of metals (phases, inclusions, and other constituents) at the microscopic scale, using optical observation of samples prepared for this purpose.

Microstructure; microstructure

Microscopic structure of metals, consisting mainly of individual crystalline areas called "grains," whose size, orientation, and crystal lattice determine their physical and chemical properties.
