5. Conclusion

The forming range for zirconium and hafnium alloys exploits conventional processes widely used for other metal alloys. However, the process parameters must be perfectly matched to the chemical composition of the alloy being processed, as well as to the properties expected of the finished products. Indeed, each process in the range has a potential influence on the final behavior of the parts, via changes in alloy chemistry, phases present, microstructure or crystallographic texture. Given the stringent requirements of the nuclear industry, it is essential to master all the processes in the manufacturing and forming range.
