12. Conclusion and outlook

Far from casting a pall over thermal spraying, cold spray has, on the contrary, breathed new life into it with the development of the 2000s. Initially left out of the family of thermal spraying processes, it can now be considered the leader. Given their relatively low investment costs and the high potential of their technology, cold spray installations seem to be multiplying inexorably in contract workshops, SMEs and large companies, not to mention so-called universities, to become as commonplace as furnaces or lasers.

Since the essence of cold spray lies in the deformation of the sprayed particles, the process has historically been developed from metal, i.e. applied mainly to metallic materials (hence the treatment of the subject in this article), both for the deposit and for the substrate (red base strip in figure
