To meet the quality criteria demanded by customers, the operator needs to control the process, i.e. electrolyte stabilization, in order to optimize reactor operation. In the case of a closed batch reactor, for example, the composition of the bath changes throughout the campaign as a result of reactions that may take place within the reactor, as well as due to entrainment from upstream to downstream stations. A global approach based on the establishment of a material balance for each mineral component of the electrolyte provides the operator with a better understanding of how the [20][22] reactor works. This will enable him to define the concentration setpoints and, by the same token, the corrective actions required to maintain the system at a given operating point....
