8. Conclusion

This article does not claim to offer an exhaustive panorama of all the industries successfully using electroless nickel. However, the many applications presented here illustrate the remarkable performance of this type of coating.

Electroless nickel possesses multiple properties that have contributed to its success: corrosion and abrasion resistance, hardness, magnetic susceptibility, weldability, lubricity, thickness uniformity. Depending on requirements, one or other of these properties can be modified by adjusting the phosphorus content, the operating conditions for nickel plating or heat treatment, or by co-depositing silicon carbide or polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) particles with the nickel.

This wide range of properties opens up enormous possibilities, provided they are used wisely.
