3. Main steps in a galvanizing operation

Regardless of the process [M 1 531] , certain basic operations have the same functions, applied with different technologies.

• Surface preparation

  The main purpose is to clean the steel surface of exogenous contaminants (dust, oils, abrasion fines) and endogenous contaminants (oxides).

  Depending on the process, it may be supplemented by a fluxing step to improve and regulate steel/zinc reactivity.
