2. Range of surface treatments and coatings

The aim of surface treatments and coatings is to provide tooling with additional functionalities over and above the basic properties of the steel from which it is made. These functionalities can be either resistance to friction and wear, or resistance to fatigue in all its forms (surface fatigue, fatigue in the mass, thermomechanical fatigue), or resistance to corrosion and oxidation. Surface treatments and coatings are also economically attractive, as they enable us to lighten the manufacturing range of less-alloyed products to which, at the end of the operation, they provide the functionalities required by the specifications.

There are four types of surface treatment: structural transformation by mechanical or thermal means, thermochemical diffusion treatments, conversion treatments and coatings.
