4. Spray coating of CMMp
This technique involves spraying droplets of liquid or semi-liquid composite onto a substrate to be coated with CMMp, where they solidify. The droplets are formed by atomization using a gas, liquid or plasma.
Among the main advantages of atomization are the low impact temperature and high solidification speed, which limit metal grain growth, the absence of surface oxidation and, above all, the possibility of obtaining parts with their final shape, close to the dimensions. What's more, composites of varying volume fractions can be produced, even with highly reactive matrices.
4.1 Projection-atomization
It's a process that has developed recently and seems to have a very promising future, as it...

Costs
Today, the cost of reinforcing particles is highly variable, with a downward trend in prices. For example, a pound (= 0.454 kg) of particles can vary from 2 to 40 Canadian dollars, depending on the nature and size of the particles, whereas a pound of processed aluminum (finished parts) used to cost only 1 to 2 dollars, depending on the alloy and, above all, the quantity. We need to keep a close eye on the price of aluminum, which...
