Consumable electrode or primary ingot; Électrode consommable ou lingot primaire

Ingot obtained by a conventional casting process in a cast-iron ingot mould and used as a consumable electrode for the ESR remelting process.

Espacement interdendritique (DAS); dendritic arm spacing (DAS)

Distance between two primary dendritic arms (pDAS: primary dendritic arm spacing) or secondary dendritic arms (sDAS: secondary dendritic arm spacing).

Grain colonnaire; columnar grain

Oriented grain whose growth direction has been favored by imposed conditions of strong thermal gradient.

Grain équiaxe; equiaxed grain

Grain with no preferred growth orientation.
