8. Electro-refining

Indium cement is used to manufacture anodes for electrorefining. This can be carried out in an aqueous or molten-salt medium. The aim is to obtain indium with a minimum purity of 99.95%.

8.1 In aqueous media

The redox half-reactions for indium are :

  • at the anode: In 0 → In 3+ + 3rd - ;

  • at cathode: In 3+ + 3e - → In 0 .
