4. Natural resource processing

The treatment of natural resources involves the use of separative techniques to concentrate the magnesite contained in a mineral assemblage or in the magnesium salts present in seawater: impurities or soluble salts interfering with subsequent metallurgical processes leading to the metal or its oxide are thus largely eliminated.

4.1 Magnesite mining and mineral processing

The type of deposit determines the mining method. Massive magnesite deposits are generally quarried. Small, narrow and deep deposits, on the other hand, are mined using tunnels and underground workings.
