6. Consequences for the choice of channels

In this aspect, we only consider what involves residuals, whereas the choice of a route - blast furnace-smelting (possibly variants starting from ore) or scrap – electric furnace - depends primarily on economic or technical considerations.

Economic considerations include the size of markets, the number and diversity of grades and formats, and tonnages per order; technical issues include the choice between flat and long products, and the type of casting: blooms, billets, slabs or thin slabs, as well as the profitability of highly productive rolling tools such as continuous mills.

Interactions between chemical compositions and manufacturing parameters mean that we need to choose the right processes for our products.
