1. Development of new steelmaking processes

1.1 Motivations for studying

As pointed out in an IISI study on the electric furnace [1] , most of this research is linked to :

  • first of all, the growing availability of scrap metal in the world [12] which, it should be remembered, favors and explains the worldwide development of the arc furnace;

  • but, secondly, the lack of electrical energy or its high cost in certain regions, which hinders the development of the arc furnace;

  • and, lastly, a quest for flexibility, which could be expressed by the desire for a process that could, at the limit,...
