3. Metallurgical mechanisms in hot rolling

In this section, we describe the different phases of hot rolling and the physical mechanisms involved, after presenting the characteristics of the initial product, whether a slab or a billet.

3.1 Initial product features

We deliberately place ourselves in the case of cold or lukewarm charging (T < Ae 3 , i.e. at a temperature below the equilibrium austenitization temperature). In line with the metallurgical recalls made, the crystallographic structure of the slab or billet before loading is of the centered cubic type.
