10. Conclusions

The prediction, analysis and study of phenomena linked to bacterial corrosion are important not only to better understand the modifications to metal surfaces in these environments, but also to help industrialists in their choice of materials, where the economic stakes are crucial.

Biocorrosion research can only be carried out successfully through intensive collaboration between the various disciplines involved: metallurgy, chemistry, electrochemistry, microbiology, biochemistry...

In addition to gaining a better understanding of bacterial growth mechanisms and their involvement in corrosion kinetics, ongoing work will focus on the importance of mechanical effects on biofilm resistance.
