3. Conclusion

The choice of an alloy grade for applications where dry corrosion is a problem is a difficult one, requiring a real dialogue to be established both within the company, between the end-user and the specifier, and outside the company, with the material supplier. This kind of communication will prevent many mistakes, and the disasters that can result. It will be all the more effective if it takes place well upstream of the project, i.e. at the design office stage, and involves both "materials" engineers (mechanics, metallurgists and physical-chemists) and "process" engineers (plant operators, thermal engineers, hydrodynamic engineers, production managers).
