 INTRODUCTION

This talk on alloy selection concludes the presentation of the phenomenon of "Dry corrosion of metals. Industrial cases". The various articles published review the main high-temperature environments encountered in practice, and study the resistance of commercial alloys to different modes of corrosion.

High-temperature corrosion cannot be avoided, but it can and must be controlled.

This can be achieved by choosing materials adapted to the conditions encountered in the various industries concerned, depending on the type of corrosion the industrialist is facing.

Note :

Readers are invited to refer to the articles describing the various types of dry corrosion:

  • - Dry corrosion of metals. Industrial cases: oxidation, carburizing ;

  • - Dry corrosion of metals. Industrial cases: sulfurizing, nitriding;

  • - Dry corrosion of metals. Industrial cases: halogens ;

  • - Dry corrosion of metals. Industrial cases: deposits, molten media;

to which article :

  • M 4 228 - Dry corrosion of metals. Choice of alloys ;

as well as :

  • - Dry corrosion of metals. Industrial cases. For further information;

for the composition of the various recommended alloy grades.

For a theoretical study of the phenomenon, please consult the following articles and [ of this treaty.
