Different processes for zinc anticorrosion protection of steel

The generic term "galvanizing" is often used interchangeably to designate a number of processes whose anti-corrosion performance differs widely. However, each of these processes is associated with a standard that unambiguously specifies how to achieve the desired quality.

This is why the use of the term "galvanizing" or "galvanized" alone, in specifications or drawings, is incomplete and therefore insufficient. It only means that a zinc coating is applied to the steel. It is also necessary to specify the thickness and method of application, and hence the coating's service life and resistance to mechanical stress.

Depending on the application, steel can be effectively and economically protected against corrosion by zinc coatings applied in a variety of ways and thicknesses.
