INTRODUCTION
The concept of pre-painted products, which originated in the USA around 1937 for the manufacture of Venetian blinds, has established itself worldwide as a reliable, high-performance product. In 2006, worldwide consumption exceeded 18 million tonnes (MT), with average annual growth of 5% since 2003, and European production reached 5.7 MT.
In Europe, the building industry, both exterior (cladding, roofing) and interior, consumes over 70% of pre-painted steel production, and remains its preferred market. Nearly 9% of production passes through service centers for finishing operations (slitting, blanking). On the other hand, consumption of high-gloss pre-painted steel sheet for household appliance cladding has been declining since 2004, and now accounts for just 6% of production.
To meet the different needs expressed by these markets, a highly diversified range of products has been developed, enabling us to respond to different requirements: appearance, aesthetics, shape, corrosion resistance, light resistance (UV resistance), mechanical strength, scratch resistance, ease of application, recycling, maintenance and renovation.
