5. Conclusion

Now an indispensable part of the electricity sector, photovoltaic energy has a bright future ahead. Technological advancements will continue and are expected to further reduce costs and improve efficiency. New technologies—more complex than current silicon-based systems but offering greater promise in terms of performance—are expected to emerge in the coming years, raising new questions about their long-term reliability.

There is no magic formula for assessing the reliability and durability of photovoltaic systems. Only a thorough understanding of the technologies involved and the ways in which they degrade—taking into account the environmental conditions at the installation site—can help identify the risks involved while implementing appropriate quality control measures, from component manufacturing through to installation at the power plant.
