Firstly, we will present the definitions of the different fields involved in this study, and then draw up a comparison based on the definitions, which will already highlight a significant potential for common issues between sustainable development and wear protection.

1.1 Definition of the term "tribology

Sir Peter Jost first coined the term tribology in 1966. The original English definition reads:
