6. Tribosystem maintenance as a sustainable development tool
In the automotive industry, stamping plants require substantial capital investment. If the durability of equipment and tools fails to meet requirements, their replacement uses massive resources and generates costs. The service life of systems can be extremely variable, reaching several decades for example, as in the case of a large hydroelectric turbine. Regardless of system lifetime, premature failures due to unfavorable operating conditions or increasing damage must be avoided at all costs.
The spectrum of use profiles varies according to customer and time. As a result, product components never reach the end of their life cycle at the same time. Without condition or state monitoring, a significant potential service life is wasted as resource consumption. Undetected or unexpected wear and tear of components leads to enormous costs and increased risks of accidents...
