6. Glossary

Fabric weave

This is the interweaving pattern of warp and weft threads. The weave ratio is the smallest pattern used to define a fabric.

Chain wire

Thread in the production direction of the loom.

Weft thread

Thread perpendicular to loom production direction.

Slender material

A material is slender when at least one of its dimensions is negligible compared to the others. The ratio between the lengths must be at least a few tens.

Carding

Spinning operation which consists in individualizing the fibers and cleaning them if necessary.

This operation consists in at least partially covering the fibers with a lubricant,...
