2. Textile friction measurement methods

The measurement methods used are specific to the fibrous material, whether in the form of fiber, yarn or textile surface. The aim is to characterize the friction between the fibrous material and itself, or with another material. The criteria used are standard: static and dynamic friction forces and coefficients, and their evolution as a function of time, sliding distance, speed, normal load applied, etc.

2.1 Measuring fiber and yarn friction

The principles of measuring friction at these two scales are identical, but the forces involved and the difficulty of implementation are not of the same order of magnitude: handling fibers, especially if they are short, fine or fragile, is tricky.
