2. Wear in fluid lubrication

2.1 Lubrication regimes

Wear is mainly induced by direct contact between two solids sliding, pivoting or rolling on each other. The most effective method of minimizing wear is to interpose a fluid lubricant film (liquid or gas, i.e. low cission, figure 7 ) between the two parts. It should be noted that such a regime can be obtained with solid lubricants (soft metal, lamellar solid such as graphite or MoS 2 , soap, polymer), but modeling such a regime, which is also very effective in limiting friction and wear, is more complex due to the possibility of lubricant...
