3. Nanostructures for enhanced light absorption

3.1 Light trapping

The most common method used to increase a solar cell's performance is to reduce the amount of light it reflects. This is achieved industrially at the micrometer scale, with the texturing of silicon into pyramids of typical sizes 3-10 µm, which favors angles of incidence at which light is not reflected on the surface, as well as increasing the number of reflections in the structure, thus increasing the amount of light that penetrates the material.
