First stage of fiber processing: the fibrous flakes are divided into smaller pieces, gaining in volume and reducing the level of impurities by a factor of around 10.

carding

Mechanical operation used to detangle, individualize and clean fibers through the mechanical action of sawtooth or brush-like metal inserts.

drawing frame

Spinning machine in which several ribbons, usually between 6 and 10, are juxtaposed in order to reduce mass irregularities, then drawn to align the fibers and deploy the hooks; the output product is a ribbon.
