1. Definition of a fabric

Weaving creates surfaces by interweaving parallel threads running lengthwise (warp) and perpendicular threads running widthwise (weft) . In line with the above definition, AFNOR standard NF G07-001 defines a woven fabric as a fabric formed by the generally perpendicular interlacing of two sets of threads: this interlacing is achieved during weaving on a weaving machine.
