4. Conclusion

Since the 1990s, the capacitor market has been driven primarily by the development of mobile and connected devices, which require ever-greater miniaturization. Undoubtedly, the multilayer ceramic capacitor is best suited to this trend and, aided by the development of BME technology, has captured a dominant market share. This has largely been at the expense of film capacitors, which, in addition to being difficult to miniaturize, are ill-suited for surface mounting—a process now widely used in most applications. As a result, the share of ceramic capacitors has continued to rise, reaching 49% by 2024.
