4. Conclusion and outlook
The development of safety glass, such as tempered or laminated glass, has led to a significant increase in the use of this material in virtually all situations. Technological developments are still possible, and glass manufacturers are constantly working to improve glass performance in their Research and Development departments. Research into the mechanical strengthening of glass is still ongoing, as is chemical tempering (little used in the building industry), or methods for eliminating defects on the edges of glass sheets and even on the entire surface by means of hydrofluoric attack. These developments, used today in the aeronautics industry, will certainly find future applications in the building industry.
