Adhesives used in industrial wood bonding

Of the ten or so adhesives used in the wood industry, we have two main types.

The largest are the aminoplasts, phenolics and resorcines. The first family is the largest, and urea-formaldehyde is the basic element. It adheres very well to wood and, above all, its price defies all competition. The phenolic family is reserved for exterior plywood, while the resorcinol family, less and less used, is mainly reserved for glued laminated wood. The second type is vinyls. It accounts for only a fraction of total consumption. Other adhesives are marginal in terms of volume, occupying niche markets for specific applications.
