2. What types of containers can be used for "parcel" transport?

The types of container defined by the ADR that can be used for transport in "packages" are as follows:

  • standard containers, otherwise known as "packagings" (defined in ADR § 6.3 for specific packagings for infectious substances in class 6.2, § 6.4 for packagings for radioactive substances in class 7, and in ADR § 6.1 for packagings for substances in all other classes, except gases in class 2);

  • Large packagings" (defined in ADR § 6.6);

  • specific containers for Class 2 gases (defined in ADR § 6.2), otherwise known as "Transportable Pressure Equipment" or "TPSE";

  • Intermediate Bulk Containers" or "IBCs" (defined in ADR § 6.5).
