8. Under what conditions can IBCs and ESPTs be reused?

IBCs and ESPTs can be reused as long as they offer the same guarantees as if they were new, and as long as they are not soiled by the substances transported. They must undergo periodic inspections at regular intervals, carried out directly by an inspection body or under its delegation.

The inspection frequency is set at 2.5 years for IBCs. In addition, for composite IBCs, the plastic inner liner must be changed every 5 years. These intervals may be reduced for the transport of certain hazardous materials.

For ESPTs, the packing instruction specifies the frequency of inspection, depending on the material being transported. During this inspection, the container is separated from its service equipment and requalified. The service equipment is then reconditioned by an approved reconditioner.
