The ISO 9000–9001 series introduces a few new terms, but primarily revises the definitions of existing practices and terms that are familiar in organizations’ quality management systems.

Among these changes to definitions, the following stand out in particular:

  • the quality management system;

  • the process-oriented approach and workflows;

  • the distinction between risks and opportunities;

  • a culture of quality and ethics;
