2. D1 – The 8D team and how it works

2.1 The activities

  • Appoint a sponsor who is concerned about the importance of solving the problem, and who is responsible for obtaining resources.

  • Appoint an 8D leader who has mastered the 8D method and who will be responsible for the team's effectiveness (if necessary, use a coach to support the leader).

  • Appoint a representative to represent the customer's interests.

  • Create a multi-disciplinary "8D" team (for example, in the case of a complaint about a defective product, purchasing, methods, design, quality, maintenance, production, etc. may all be involved).

  • Define operating rules (frequency of meetings, decision-making procedures,...
