3. Conclusion

For olfactometric or physico-chemical analyses of odorous gases, the French standard NF X 43-104, dated 1995 and applied until October 2003, when it was replaced by the European text EN 13725, transcribed in France under the AFNOR reference NF X 43-327, sets out odorous gas sampling methods for all sources encountered in industry.

While both texts are equally precise in terms of the materials to be used, the packaging of sampled gases and the precautions to be taken during sampling, it would appear that the European text introduces totally new elements (safety of sampling technicians, calibration of equipment, recording of sampling data) or is more demanding/constraining on certain elements already existing in the AFNOR text, in order to meet the quality requirements introduced in the European text.
