Resilience

A material's capacity to absorb energy before breaking. This value can be determined by a Charpy test.

Charpy test

Resilience test used to characterize a material's energy absorption capacity prior to flexural failure. It consists in striking a specimen of the material to be tested, resting on two supports, with a pendulum of mass dropped from a given height, to enable comparison and reproducibility of results. The height at which the pendulum rises after impact is used to determine the energy required to break the specimen.
