3.1 Study certain subjects

Moisture recovery

Some materials have moisture absorption properties, which means that if you weld them at high ambient humidity, there's a risk that the water contained in the material will vaporize. Depending on the type of material, this translates into :

  • small surface craters for PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate),

  • white foam for PCs (polycarbonate),

  • the impossibility of welding PA (polyamide), etc.

Check this parameter by studying the material's technical data sheet: result of a water absorption test at 23°C for 24 hours with a specified percentage of humidity or saturation: x gram...
