Véronique MESGUICH: Strategic intelligence consultant and trainer
INTRODUCTION
When it comes to data, the figures quickly reach dizzying heights: according to IDC, the size of the digital universe is set to reach 175 zettabytes of data by 2025.
Big data is characterized by the 3V rule: volume, variety, speed, to which we can add 2 other Vs: value and visualization. In fact, taken individually, data is worth nothing... It's analysis, through datavisualization, that adds value by creating intelligence and knowledge.
Datavisualization methods and tools thus enable the intelligence analyst to process masses of data by applying statistical algorithms and limiting cognitive biases. As well as rationalizing and enriching data, software tools also offer dynamic exploration interfaces for corpora of numerical or textual data.
This fact sheet takes a "methods" approach to datavisualization, presenting the various stages: analysis of needs, identification of data, preparation, choice of metrics.
